BREAKING A CERTAIN APPROACH TO JURISPRUDENCE TEACHING

This excellent book for undergraduates is divided into 3 broad themes, sub divided into general and advanced topics. The authors have broken with the more usual approach to teaching jurisprudence which is to be welcomed for its innovative study method deployed here.

New editions for Jurisprudence do not appear as frequently as, say `case heavy' substantive law areas so the authors have merely tinkered with the text to improve it and sharpen it for the new edition... and they do just that! So this second edition includes a rearrangement of the general sections, re-written where necessary for a more systematic coverage.

With the advanced sections some new topics have been added, notably on law and deconstruction, and law and autopoiesis to name just a couple of areas. There's also an enhanced discussion of the rise of legal positivism linked to the rise of the modern state. The changing role of natural and human rights discourse is well covered to take account of recent developments.

Professors Veitch, Christodoulidis and Farmer have created a very modern teaching tool here breaking from the old approaches so the book is very well described as `accessible, interdisciplinary and socially informed' and successfully takes account of the most recent developments in current jurisprudential thought. It is just what I need to explain modern jurisprudence to the worried student!

About the Author
Lisa A. Urry
Lisa Urry (Chapter 1 and Units 1 and 2) is Professor of Biology and Chair of the Biology Department at Mills College in Oakland, California, and a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating from Tufts University with a double major in biology and French, Lisa completed her Ph.D. in molecular and developmental biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program. She has published a number of research papers, most of them focused on gene expression during embryonic and larval development in sea urchins. Lisa has taught a variety of courses, from introductory biology to developmental biology and senior seminar. As a part of her mission to increase understanding of evolution, Lisa also teaches a non-majors course called Evolution for Future Presidents and is on the Teacher Advisory Board for the Understanding Evolution website developed by the University of California Museum of Paleontology. Lisa is also deeply committed to promoting opportunities for women and underrepresented minorities in science. Lisa is also a co-author of Campbell Biology.

Michael L. Cain
Michael Cain (Chapter 1 and Units 3, 4, and 7) is an ecologist and evolutionary biologist who is now writing full-time. Michael earned a joint degree in biology and math at Bowdoin College, an M.Sc. from Brown University, and a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell University. As a faculty member at New Mexico State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, he taught a wide range of courses, including introductory biology, ecology, evolution, botany, and conservation biology. Michael is the author of dozens of scientific papers on topics that include foraging behavior in insects and plants, long-distance seed dispersal, and speciation in crickets. In addition to his work on Campbell Biology and Campbell Biology in Focus, Michael is also the lead author of an ecology textbook.

Steven A. Wasserman
Steve Wasserman (Chapter 1 and Unit 6) is Professor of Biology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He earned his A.B. in biology from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in biological sciences from MIT. Through his research on regulatory pathway mechanisms in the fruit fly Drosophila, Steve has contributed to the fields of developmental biology, reproduction, and immunity. As a faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and UCSD, he has taught genetics, development, and physiology to undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. He currently focuses on teaching introductory biology. He has also served as the research mentor for more than a dozen doctoral students and more than 50 aspiring scientists at the undergraduate and high school levels. Steve has been the recipient of distinguished scholar awards from both the Markey Charitable Trust and the David and Lucille Packard Foundation. Peter V. Minorsky
Peter Minorsky (Chapter 1 and Unit 5) is Professor of Biology at Mercy College in New York, where he teaches introductory biology, evolution, ecology, and botany. He received his B.A. in biology from Vassar College and his Ph.D. in plant physiology from Cornell University. He is also the science writer for the journal Plant Physiology. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Peter taught at Kenyon College, Union College, Western Connecticut State University, and Vassar College. His research interests concern how plants sense environmental change. Peter received the 2008 Award for Teaching Excellence at Mercy College. Peter is also a co-author of Campbell Biology.

Jane B. Reece
The head of the author team for recent editions of Campbell Biology, Jane Reece was Neil Campbell’s longtime collaborator. Earlier, Jane taught biology at Middlesex County College and Queensborough Community College. She holds an A.B. in biology from Harvard University, an M.S. in microbiology from Rutgers University, and a Ph.D. in bacteriology from the University of California, Berkeley. Jane’s research as a doctoral student and postdoctoral fellow focused on genetic recombination in bacteria. Besides her work on Campbell Biology in Focus, she has been a coauthor of Campbell Biology, Campbell Biology: Concepts & Connections, Campbell Essential Biology, and The World of the Cell.

Neil A. Campbell
Neil Campbell (1946-2004) combined the investigative nature of a research scientist with the soul of an experienced and caring teacher. He earned his M.A. in zoology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Ph.D. in plant biology from the University of California, Riverside, where he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. Neil published numerous research articles on desert and coastal plants and how the sensitive plant (Mimosa) and other legumes move their leaves. His 30 years of teaching in diverse environments included introductory biology courses at Cornell University, Pomona College, and San Bernardino Valley College, where he received the college’s first Outstanding Professor Award in 1986. Neil was a visiting scholar in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at the University of California, Riverside.

Do not buy this if you need a brand new with the access code! I paid for new and received an unsealed damaged book without access code. They replaced it with another and it came with the exact product! Not new no access code!! Just waist of time to send them back

About the Author
Jon M. Conrad is Professor of Resource Economics in the Department of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. He taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, from 1973 to 1977, joining the Cornell faculty in 1978. His research interests focus on the use of dynamic optimization techniques to manage natural resources and environmental quality. He has published articles in the Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Canadian Journal of Economics, Land Economics, Marine Resource Economics, Biomathematics, Ecological Economics, Natural Resource Modeling and the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, where he served as an associate editor. He is coauthor, with Colin Clark, of the text Natural Resource Economics: Notes and Problems (Cambridge University Press, 1987) and past President of the Resource Modeling Association. Cambridge University Press published the first edition of Resource Economics in 1999.

Bad. Just really bad.

I bought both books at the same time based on the reviews. I will never do that again!!
These were some of the worst books I have read since getting my kindle a year ago and I've read over two hundred books. Not only was the editing horrible the H/h were horrible as well. One minute they are acting tough and cocky and the next they are acting weak and ridiculous, BOTH of them. There were times when it felt like the author was trying to fit every horrible cliche known to man kind in before it was over. The h was mouthy toward the Mafia! Yet for some reason she is allowed to get away with it..ok, not believable at all. The so called Mafia king goes around killing people in cold blood for years yet Bree is able to stop him by simply telling him how wrong it is. Just bad bad bad! I'm sorry, I'm sure the author worked really hard on this book but no fricking way does a "Mafia king" become an FBI agent!!! Nope not even in book world.

Excellent HEA for the relationship with Zerro. The cliffhanger from Indebted (A Kingpin Love Affair Book 1) was pretty scar. I loved the way that she turned the whole thing around. I really thought that she was in a bad place, but it pulled together really well in the end.

the christian myth with a black face

Its the usual syncretizing here. Paul Boyd, goes from being objectively historical, to subjectively dogmatic by pg 100 up, preposing that the Christian belief of a Jesus christ is some how valid, despite any proof from sources outside of the christian world before and after. He goes on to assert that the creators of the Egyptian philosophy were polytheistic and paganistic, which shows that he doesn't know much about the Egyptian (KMT) symbolism or world philosophy.

There is a big difference between a Priest Artisans intent and a outside commoners interpretation, because different Egyptians paid homage to certain deities or more, does not mean that they did not recognize a supreme source, quite the contrary, Amen is representative of the Supreme source as the unseen or underlying cause of all manifested deities, deities representing the attributes of the source. But, one must channel through the deities for communication as all Africans didn't believe you could contact the source personally but had to go through It's mediums, which is the same as christians communicating to their god through the medium jesus. Something that Mr.Boyd is obviously not aware of, but forcibly makes a big deal about a Jesus being black when a lot of Semetic's didn't identify with their black side as they still don't, so, no need for an epiphany moment.

But, getting back on track, Mr. Boyd shows the influence of African spirituality in view of the African consensus influencing Europeans and Middle Easterners, and so on, but, somehow he goes into left field as to authenticate the bibles literature in relation to all African spirituality, by giving the unproven account of a jesus christ as the manifestation over and behind all African spiritual philosophy.

Being over zealous can create the illusion of superiority, inwhich all religions or spiritual philosophies, contain the truth in so far that it can be translated objectively as legit and 100% accurate across the board. Which, in Mr. Boyd's case, he fails to accomplish.

For example: he acknowledges, that Yoruba knows a supreme being and yet fails to see that the Orisa is identical to the KMT(Egyptians) neter, which is nothing more than the outward expressions of the Supreme(Self) in relation to relative experiencing, giving account to the KMT being much older than the Yoruba system, the similarities is just a matter of what costume the True Self will be wearing for each occasion, as it has already been proven that the Yoruba Ancestors the Nok, or enough of them, were descendants of KMT or at least, adopted by contact, KMT costumes. This is why there are so many similarities between the two, see: terra cotta pottery making and so on.

On closing, my rejection of this book is not on the grounds of how one will interpret the True Self(God), but on the grounds of one showing selective favoritism as to legitimize what they have accepted as the truth, and yet cannot verify objectively, such is the case of a jesus or yeshua existing in the way that christian fundies claim. There has been many accounts of Shamans through out history in Africa and abroad, healing people, but none ever claim that it was through a jesus of the Israelites that they work. God can't be define to favoritism of one group, all things in the Universe is the begotten of the so-called God.

Really ppl, if we need to alter what the Truth represents, then it is pointless to argue against who's side is more truer, especially when one ignores the principles of perception for their own selfish means, stop believing and start perceiving. nuff said!

If you're into details, skip this one. One minute, she's wearing flats with her librarian outfit, the next heels. Her mother's wedding is on Saturday, the next day it's a weekday. She keeps calling people on their home phones, instead of their cell phones (WHY???? If it's a murder case, WHY call people on their home phones or only give out your home number instead of cell number?). Three days pass, but she calls it 48 hours. The bachelorette party is tonight (as her Faux Dad calls to remind her) and she tells herself she needs to call her best friend and ask her to go with her to the bachelorette party tomorrow night. I could go on and on, but I won't. There are so many more FREE Kindle books that aren't this messed up. I can't even finish reading this one.

Is God Real -- Let the truth be told, By Daniel Milton Taylor is an excellant book that you have no choice but to walk away from a more encouraged person. This book is wrote so that even the worst reader will be able to read and get the full understanding. "Is God Real" will definatley have you thinking of how wonderful God has been in your life even when you didn't know it. I'd highly recommend this book to everyone.

For the architectural designer, the schematic design stage offers the greatest opportunity to impact a building’s performance, efficiency, and appearance. The right decisions—made early enough—save millions of dollars in building and operating costs. Decisions that promote comfort and energy efficiency can also result in exciting design solutions. But getting the information essential to good design is not easy. It must be detailed enough to help in decision making, but not so detailed or unwieldy as to distract the designer from his mission of creating an integrated and coherent whole. That’s why this book was written by an architect to help other architects find the most relevant information and practical tools available to them when designing heating, cooling, and lighting systems. The design tools are mainly concepts, guidelines, handy rules of thumb, examples, and physical modeling. They not only solve problems but also promote the designer’s knowledge and intuition. This in-depth but uncluttered approach—free of distracting mathematical analysis—accounts for the book’s unique qualitative, rather than quantitative, outlook on design problems. Using a three-tiered approach, Heating, Cooling, Lighting: Design Methods for Architects systematically and methodically seeks solutions to some of a building’s most difficult design problems. The first tier centers on load avoidance. Here the need for heating, cooling, and lighting is minimized by the design of the building itself. The second tier consists of making maximal use of a building’s natural energies. The third tier concerns itself with using mechanical equipment to meet the needs not met by tiers one and two. About the author NORBERT LECHNER, Registered Architect, is Associate Professor in the Building Science Department, School of Architecture, Auburn University. He is also a consultant to design studios on matters of environmental systems and structures. He received his bachelor of architecture degree from the City University of New York and his master of science in architectural technology from Columbia University. He is a frequent contributor to Architectural Lighting magazine.

Oh Norbert!

Any owner of a pith helmet with attached solar-powered fan will love this book. I have only met one such person, the author. However, this book represents the most rigorous process for sustainable design that I have encountered. This is the place to start if you need LEEDs certification.
