If you are not on the ledge, you are taking up too much room!

I am a small business owner that constantly reads to stay crisp, engaged with trends and motivated. Davinci and the 40 Answers broke completley new ground for me with TRIZ. I found myself reading a chapter then going back to reread for greater enlightenment. STOP reading the reviews and buy this book now if you are serious about being more creative, developing different skill sets to solve problems and picking up pearls of wisdom that will help you succeed in this roller coaster economy.

Mark Fox's book shooked my world ! So many possibilities are shared in "Da Vinci and the 40 answers" . I learned about TRIZ and the 40 universal answers to basic problems. Buy this book now !

A very bad book

I was very surprized by this book. It reviewed well (more on that later), so I thought i would give it a read. I am a big fan of this genre of book, and have read many great ones on creative thinking, TRIZ, etc. This was, by far, the worst book I have read on the subject. The prose read like a 10th grader wrote the book. The subject is a smattering of anechdotes that are pulled from the author's experience. Unfortunately, this reads like a strange arrangement of bragging tales more than anything. The author seems to compare his own adoption as a child to that of DaVinci, and nearly admits that his motivation for writing the book is simply to say that he has written a best-seller.
A major problem with the book is the complete lack of useful information. His basic advice for creating thinking is to defy authority. Very trite, and not very helpful. He also doesn't seem to understand the basic underpinnings of true creative thinking, serindipity, and systematic scientific progress. As an example, he cites the discovery of microwaves as creative thinking at its best. This is usually cited as the best example of someone discovering something completely by accident.
The most agreegeous aspect of the book is the technical incorrectness. He states that automotive window bufetting is a resonance of the eardrum (it is not). He states that there is significant controversy regarding the '86 Space Shuttle explosion (see Truth, Lied and O-rings for the true story). The author tells tales of important people that ignored his advice, and how foolish these people were to not follow his devine creativity. He boasts that the CIA could solve cases better if they simply followed his advice. In fact, his advice was filled with many flaws that he clearly did not understand. Many of his references are from Wikipedia. What kind of author cites Wiki in a book???
Finally, I want to close by saying that I am not just a "follower of dogma" that just doesn't get it. Again, I regularly read on TRIZ, DaVinci, and similar topics. The fact that this book is rated at nearly 5 starts (at the time of this review), suggests that these previous reviews may not be unbiased. If you are considering this book, I would suggest that you flip through a few pages on Google Books for free before buying it. There are dozens of books that are better written, more informative, and based on factual authoritative information.
