Working with Paul has greatly improved the performance of my entire organization.... In today's matrix environments, the ability to have productive and efficient meetings is critical to the success of the business.
--Aaron L. Wetzel, Vice President, Global Crop Care Platform, Deere & Company
While I have worked with a few clients who possessed natural skills for conducting organized meetings, I have yet to meet any clients with formal training in designing meetings for greatest impact and results. Regardless of clients' skill level, Paul's ideas around designing, leading, managing, and participating in meetings produce immediate shifts in their abilities to contribute to better meeting outcomes. Paul has a gift for boiling any skill down to the five to seven key ideas that are critical to keep in one's awareness. He communicates these ideas in a clear, concise fashion, which makes them easy to put to use. I have been waiting impatiently for this book so that all of Paul's ideas about conducting more effective meetings would be in one place. I am eager to share this valuable resource with my clients.
-- --Lynda Rands, Executive Coach, WorkLife Resources
Paul came into our leadership team and taught us how to make a significant return on our business by creating a productive and rewarding environment for our division of 160 employees. Paul's teaching was, by far, the best educational experience I have had. (And I achieved my undergraduate in engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and my masters in management at MIT.) --Charles Hura, Business Consultant
Meetings can be a mind-numbing squandering of time, money, patience, and other finite resources. But they needn t and shouldn t be. In Meetings Matter, Paul Axtell shows how thoughtful, respectful, and focused conversation is the key to effective meetings. What's more, he provides lots of specific strategies and tactics. Adopt the practices suggested here and the meetings you attend will never be fruitless again. The bonus? You and your colleagues will be more engaged than ever in producing great results.
--Rodger Dean Duncan, author of Change-Friendly Leadership
I have been following Paul's teaching in organizations for more than a decade now. The essence is: When people matter, things get done, and they get done in amazing ways! -- --Audie Penn, Master Black Belt, Caterpillar Global Deployment

Takes a practical approach to the creation and maintenance of a meeting environment that encourages communication
By Stephanie Chandler
Buy this book. Hands down, buy this book. If you are new to the meeting game and you do not have the confidence yet to stand and lead a group, buy this book. If you just received a promotion to a management position and meetings intimidate you, buy this book. And, if you have organized, conducted, tried to avoid, and/or even relish meetings, buy this book. Yes, it is just that necessary for your toolbox.
Paul Axtell provides vivid examples, simple language, and plenty of best practices for the novice to the seasoned meeting professional in his handbook, Meeting Matters: Eight Powerful Strategies for Remarkable Conversations. Axtell takes a practical approach to the creation and maintenance of a meeting environment that encourages communication which leads to productive and respectful gatherings of those with common interests and goals. It may be that the only common element is people are gathered at the same time; however, Axtell challenges the user of his handbook to rise above the obvious and lead people to be present and participatory in a meeting situation.

Best meeting book you will every read.....
By Michele Corkery
Most people believe meetings to be a waste of valuable time and money. This is due to how ineffective and poorly managed current meetings are being led.
Paul Axtel is a highly reputable coach, mentor and businessman who genuinely cares about people and their time. In his book he provides more than just the common sense approach to how meetings should be run. He is willing to dig into difficult subjects that many people think about but generally won’t discuss.
His book is well thought through and laid out in a way that makes it as valuable for the new manager wanting to learn how to run an effective meeting for the first time as well as a seasoned manager needing tips on how to handle a specific type of situation. Paul is strategic in providing meeting design. He combines strategy and relationship to give you the opportunity to make each meeting powerful.
Best of all, Paul’s situations have been tried and proven. My meetings are far more productive since having Paul and his book in my life. Michele Corkery, Manager Global, Publications, Diagnostics and Service Tools John Deere Power Systems
